2005 Barbara Wood Extra Mile Award Winner

Sandra Segars, Dekalb Community Service Board was last year’s winner

Ms. Segars has been working in the field of Developmental Disabilities for almost 20 years, 8 1/2 of them at the DeKalb Services Center. She previously worked at Brook Run and in the school system in Florida. At the DeKalb Services Center, Ms. Segars works with individuals that need the most physical support in our program and through her daily efforts, individuals with limited movement are encouraged to be as independent as physically possible. Ms Segars makes sure that they receive encouragement, exercise, training on activities of daily living and real opportunities for community integration. By the way, her group, with assistance, makes the best brownie sundies EVER!!! In Ms. Segars spare time, she works with individuals with physical and developmental disabilities in the evening hours to promote continued training opportunities. Through her work, she is committed to helping allow family members to keep their children at home. Ms. Segars goes above and beyond...she ALWAYS goes the EXTRA MILE.
